After much thought and a lot of anguish over this choice, I have made the decision to part ways with Tease Publishing. My books Brothers at Arms and Scorpio Risen will be taken off the market sometime this week. I don't know yet if I will be placing them elsewhere.

I do have a couple other things in the works right now. It's still too preliminary to talk about, but as the saying goes, when life closes one door, it opens another (or something like that?). Stay tuned.

The food pantries all over the US are sorely needing our assistance.

DCL Publications understands this and we will be doing a can food drive for the Second Harvest of middle Tennessee. It is a time of year when we need to be thankful for what we have and share with people who have lost jobs due to the terrible economy. My website currently looks like crap because I recently switched web hosting companies and the new hosting is not displaying any of my images! I've been going around and around with their tech support on this and have not had any resolution.

By law, domain names that have been transferred (as I did to get it with the new hosting) cannot be transferred again within 30 days. So I have to wait a month and then switch hosts again. What a pain.

Please bear with me and pardon my unprofessional look for the time being. I'll have my site rebuilt as soon as I can get on some decent hosting.

OMFGooodness! Great news! Scorpio Risen was released at Fictionwise on March 24th. Today I got notification that it is on Tease Publishing's best seller list for March! The message didn't denote the order of books, but it was listed first in the Tease/Fictionwise list so maybe that means it's #1? My first #1 best seller?!

Giana stiffened. “You’re here to kill me.”

“I never stated anything to that effect.” The sluagh did not move from the place he’d morphed at.

The dark-haired woman stepped back, wary, eyeing the mephitic man. His clothing harkened back to the Victorian era and appeared genuine. His ascot, probably once white, was now dingy gray. “Why are you here? What do you want with me? What is your purpose here?”

Ashtalon’s mouth widened into a grotesque smile, baring yellowed teeth. “Predatory.”

“Were all of the crows in that murder on the prowl?”

“Yes. We were on the Wild Hunt. I have found my quarry.”

“You died once.” Giana took another step back. “Don’t fuck with me or you’ll die again, and this time you won’t be coming back. I’ll blow your fucking head off.” She stored her gun in her bedroom, but he didn’t need to know that.

“Humans in this day and age are so violent, even the women,” Ashtalon mused. “Truth be told, humans always have been a violent race. Your history is pockmarked with battle and strife. You need not fear me, Giana. I mean you no harm.”
“I don’t understand. If you’re not here to kill me, why are you here for me?”

“You claim to know mythology and lore. You have stated the sluagh try to claim the souls of the dying, and I commend you for being correct on that point. Do you know what the crow symbolizes, Giana? Do you know why we choose that form when making our descent to Earth?”

She paused. Her mind swirled with so many thoughts at once. What was the symbolism of the crow? She knew this, but of all the ideas in her head, that one eluded her for a moment. “Intelligence,” she replied as the recall hit. “Prophecy.” She wracked her brain for more. “They also symbolize warrior spirit or magic. Some cultures view the crow as a harbinger of death, an unlucky sign. A group of crows is called a murder. It’s a rather disturbing designation to some people.”

“A harbinger, precisely. For a person as fixated on death as you are, Giana, you appear very reluctant to die.” Ashtalon gestured to the various pieces of artwork adorning her walls and shelves. Many depicted skulls and other morbidities.
“Just because death fascinates me doesn’t mean I’m ready to cross over yet.”

“You will whether you are ready or not.”

“Everybody dies eventually.” She paused. “Am I going to die soon?” Her voice dropped to a near whisper.

This week has been chock-full of great news!

On Monday I received an email from my publisher Tease with the top ten best sellers for the month of August. Scorpio Risen was in the top five! I'm pretty stoked because it was released on August 15th so it reached up to the #5 slot in only 16 days!

At the lab, Seneca kept herself busy. Deylen wasn’t in today so she felt less restricted. She thought he was damn cute. She liked the way his hair always seemed a little bit out of place, like he just woke up. It was brown, but she noticed that when the sun hit it just right, blond highlights shone through. In Seneca’s opinion, Deylen’s most striking feature was his pale blue eyes. They were so light, they almost looked colorless. It gave him an almost ethereal look. She wouldn’t admit it to him though. Her own eye color was just as unusual, but she liked his better.

Seneca was used to people taking her for granted and she hated it. She was pretty and she knew it. Because she had a pretty face and a body to match, people often did not take her seriously. It wasn’t her fault that she pulled a winning ticket in the genetic lottery.

Genetics was Seneca’s true passion. She wanted so desperately to go to medical school. She had dreams of winning a Nobel Prize in medicine for curing a disease using gene therapy. Seneca truly believed that gene therapy was the future of medicine. So many strides were already being made in the field. To get in now would be on the cutting edge of the new medical technologies. She’d feel like a pioneer in the field.

Medical school cost money however and that was something Seneca lacked. She was able to get grants to go to a community college and earn an associate’s degree, which qualified her for the position here at the lab. It was only a first step in her mind. She needed to find a way to make a lot of money fast. So did everyone else who came to this city on a hope and a wish.

She put the specimens away for the moment then went out to the break room. Mia was sitting at a table, drinking a Diet Coke. “Can I ask you something?”

Mia looked over. “Sure.”

“Deylen isn’t much of a talker is he?”

“Not anymore.”

“What do you mean?”

Mia looked around. They were the only two in the room. “Sit.” She pointed to the chair across the table. Seneca sat. “Deylen is a good boss and a good man. I’ve known him a long time. Six months ago, his parents were murdered. It changed him. It changed him a lot. He lost his innocence, you might say.”

“Oh that’s horrible! Did the police catch who did it?”

“Nope.”

“I feel bad now. I think he and I really got off on the wrong foot. I am just trying so hard to do the right thing but no matter what I do I seem to piss him off. He’s probably going to fire me soon.”

“No. He knows you are trying and you are doing a lot of work that helps him.”

“What else can you tell me about him?”

“Not much. He really keeps to himself. One thing I can say though is that his friends are like family to him. He would do almost anything for them. He has a very loyal group. It’s hard for them to accept outsiders.”

“Outsiders like me.”

Mia nodded. “I’m sorry but it is true. The last technician he had in here died in an accident.”

“The poor guy is surrounded by tragedy.” Seneca felt really bad about how snippy she’d been with him.

“The last thing he wants is pity. Deylen is a strong man. He has a lot of weight on his shoulders but he bears it willingly and very well to tell the truth.”

“What else about him? What does he like to do other than run a laboratory? Why does he have his own lab anyway?”

“He likes to be the boss. He doesn’t want to work for someone else and be just another flunky.”

“Flunky, that’s me.”

Mia laughed. “Me too, I guess. As for what his interests are, I don’t really know. I don’t get to see him much outside the office.”

“Is he married? Does he have a girlfriend?”

“No and no. I know that much about him.”

“Does he have a boyfriend then?”

Mia laughed harder. “Oh no. That’s not his style. Why do you ask? Are you interested in him?”

“Well it’s hard not to notice that he’s cute.” Seneca didn’t mention that she saw Deylen bend over yesterday to pick up an ink pen he dropped and she got a good view of his ass. Even in chinos, she could tell it was firm and round. What she wouldn’t give to squeeze those cheeks! “I don’t think he’s my type though. Too quiet and reserved.”

“If you’d known him over six months ago, you wouldn’t believe it is the same man.”

“Maybe in time he will come back around. It must be hard for him; can a person really change their whole nature like that? I think his gregarious self is probably just in hiding. He’ll come out of his shell eventually.” Seneca tried to think positively. She didn’t know Deylen well yet. Maybe she was completely off the mark with her comments. She only hoped that he was in a funk and would emerge from it someday.

She wondered why she even cared about what Deylen was like outside of work. Was Mia’s question valid? Was she interested? She wasn’t lying when she said she thought he was cute. Cute didn’t begin to cover it. The guy was gorgeous. Why he shuttered himself away in a lab day after day instead of modeling for fitness magazines was beyond her. He had the body, from what she could tell. She hadn’t seen him naked yet but when he came to work in the morning, before he covered up in his shapeless lab coat, she could see the outline of his muscular frame beneath his shirt.

Seneca knew that office romances were bad news. Getting involved with the boss was even worse. What if they did get something going and it didn’t work out? She’d have to quit. He couldn’t fire her. That would be sexual harassment. She couldn’t stand to work with him still though. She’d be out of a job and even further away from the prospect of medical school. No, she’d have to try to keep her hormones in check when she was around Deylen Troika. He was a drop-dead sexy man, true, but had too many strings attached.

Seneca went back to work. The day seemed dull without her handsome boss around to natter with. Even when they were arguing about some miscommunication, it was still fulfilling. He was intellectually stimulating as well as visually enticing.

She also wondered if Mia was throwing her off track because she was interested in Deylen herself. Now that was a possibility. The two never really had any interaction that was not professional from what Seneca observed. Mia did say that she didn’t see Deylen much outside the office too. Maybe I am just paranoid. Why the hell do I care anyway?

For 250 years, the Arcée brothers have been in conflict. The vendetta between these two powerful vampires has shown no signs of resolve or waning. The concession made between the two is that the location of their ongoing war is moved every five decades to help prevent hapless mortals from discovering them. It was determined that the new locations would be chosen by a delegated Keeper, symbolized by a custom-made tarot card. Where the card goes, so do the Houses and also the war.

When the card changes hands, each house sends out Seekers, specially trained vampires who race against each other to be the first to discover the card’s new location. The first one to find the card and take control of the new keeper has the upper hand in the battle for that duration as they gain first foothold in the new city.

This year is a turning year. Julio Mendoza receives the card in the mail, unaware of its meaning. When he learns of the history of the card, he realizes he has been thrust in to a war that holds nothing for him, yet he cannot escape his fate. Still he will not accept his role meekly.

Michelle Bryson is a Seeker for the House of François Arcée. She is pitted against a ruthless rival from the House of Pierre Arcée to get to Julio first. Michelle is a young Seeker and if she fails to capture the Keeper, her life may be forfeited. What Michelle did not plan on was to find the Keeper to be a sexy, rebellious man who has a spirit in him unlike any Keeper she has seen in the past.

Julio knows the vampires are coming for him. He knows that he cannot hide forever. When the Seekers find him though, he cannot deny his attraction toward Michelle – an attraction that they will both pay dearly for if the Seeker from the House of Pierre Arcée has anything to do about it.

This has been an awesome week on the writing front.

Scorpio Risen was accepted by Tease as part of The Dark Tarot line. I finished up the first round of edits on it a few days ago. It will be out in August in ebook form and it will be in print later this year, probably November. It'll be paired in an anthology with my vampire release from Tease, Brothers at Arms.

Secondly, The Dark Castle Lords, DCL Publishing, has accepted Within These Stone Walls for publication! I just got the acceptance letter and contract so I have no clue when the release date will be. I'll post when I know it of course!

Thanks to everyone for all the good karma and well wishes lately. It's helping!

I know I have been slow with the updates. This move has been very daunting. I am still on my mom's computer at the moment. I hope to have mine up and running tomorrow. Knock on wood.

My WIP entitled Scorpio Risen is coming along well. I am hoping to have several hours dedicated to it this weekend, most likely on Sunday.

Crunch time approaches! Tomorrow is my last day at work. The following day I will be visiting a relative here in FL one more time before I move. The next 5 days after that will be taken up by a trip to the Keys. I've lived in FL for 10 years now and never saw the Keys though I've wanted to. So... I'm going, demmit! *LOL* Then the following day my dad arrives to help me with the move and the next morning after that, we load up the Uhaul trailer and hit the road. Bye bye Florida! I don't know when I'll get writing time in but I'll squeeze it somewhere! Maybe I'll bust out the laptop and write in the car during the times my dad is behind the wheel.

I have two new books in the works! You'd think I would get some of my current WIPs finished but the two I am working on now are under deadlines.

I'll tell more about them as I get them finished but to tease just a little...

One is a shifter story with (what I think) is quite a unique twist on shifters.

The other is a spooky Halloween story.

I will be moving on May 7th. I will be offline for probably 5-7 days or so, however long it takes me to drive from Florida to California.

On the bright side, it looks like there is a house available for me to rent there so I don't have to crash at Mom & Dad's until I find a place. My uncle knows someone who owns a rental house that is empty. Wish me luck that I get it!

Within These Stone Walls is finally finished! Well, it was finished last weekend but I made some tweaks. Now it is in the care of my trusted readers who help me polish up my works before submission. On the bright side, I got about 10k words written while I was gone. I'm almost done with one of my WIPs.

The Weekly Write is still being written. I know, I should have worked on that while I was gone, but my muse was elsewhere.
